Hungry? Sign up for 'Mr. C's 3 lb. Challenge'
You may want to abstain from eating for a few days if you plan to take on “Mr. C's 3lb. Challenge.”
Chef Chris Gistis, owner of Mr. C's Restaurant on Townsend Avenue, Boothbay Harbor (next to Flagship Inn), is holding another eating contest: the first one since he opened Mr. C's.
Seven years ago, he held a burger eating contest when he ran the Fish Barn on Boothbay House Hill in downtown Boothbay Harbor. That contest was won by Jason Hardwick of Boothbay.
On Saturday, May 4 at 2 p.m. at the restaurant, Gistis will oversee the “3 lb. Challenge,” which will result in the winner receiving a $100 gift certificate. Each competitor (there will be a limit of 24 competitors) will receive a T-shirt with the words, “I SURVIVED” Mr. C's 3 lb. Challenge.
The winner will be the person who finishes the food in the shortest time. The food will be: four 8-ounce burgers with Swiss cheese and bacon on buns, a pound of french fries, and a pickle.
The entrance fee (which doesn't include beverages) is $15.
“It's a good deal,” said Gistis. “Where else could you get that amount of food for $15?”
Gistis urges local people to sign up soon as the contest is being advertised on Mr. C's Facebook page and competitors are signing up through that venue.
