'A House of Dynamite'
Dear Editor:
This movie was shown at the Harbor Theater Nov. 7 through 12; it’s also streaming on NETFLIX. A nuclear armed ICBM has been detected flying toward Chicago from some Asian country. The actions of various military and government organizations are then shown leading to the necessary decision of the President. The navy officer carrying the nuclear football tells the President the options are like ordering a steak; Rare, Medium, or Well-Done. I submit he chose Well-Done, a large nuclear response which would certainly result in a full nuclear reply from Russia. Raven Rock is briefly referred to twice. Then there’s the final scene with people showing cards and boarding buses, and marine one landing at the entrance to Raven Rock Mountain Complex.
Raven Rock Mountain Complex is real. It is in an abandoned copper mine on the Maryland Pennsylvania border that’s been turned into an underground city that can house several thousand people. It has residences, markets, restaurants, banks, pharmacies, a hospital, schools, i.e. all the facilities needed to serve its temporary population for at least one month. This facility is to house a population capable of recreating the government and economy of the USA in the event a nuclear holocaust has destroyed the United States and much of the world. The chosen people include government, military, financial, educational, and others. These individuals know who they are and carry special ID cards telling the warning signal and where to get transportation.
I realize this sounds incredible; however, it exists, can be verified on the internet, and was the subject of news articles some years ago when one of the special Raven Rock ID cards was found in a parking lot. An important lesson from this movie is to realize nuclear weapons still exist in the nine nuclear weapon states. The world now has an estimated 12,300 nuclear weapons of all types. Russia and the USA* have roughly 87% of these, 10,700. We hope none is used in anger. However, we have a plan of action if such a disaster occurs…
