letter to the editor

Hometown Heroes

Mon, 09/23/2019 - 3:30pm

    Dear Editor:

We would like to thank everyone who attended the 2019 Hometown Heroes dinner to honor our hometown heroes and first responders. It was a great success. Our speaker, Tom Judge from LifeFlight, was awesome.

Thank you to all of the first responders, Rotarians and the public for attending the dinner. Most of all, thank you to Spruce Point Inn and their employees for all of their help. A special thank you goes to SPI’s Jeff Broaden for donating the proceeds from the dinner to the Hometown Heroes fund.

Below is the letter we received from Governor Janet Mills which was read at the dinner by Representative Holly Stover:

    “Dear Friends,

Thank you all for being here at the Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club’s Hometown Heroes Night. I am sorry to miss this event honoring our dedicated first responders.

As you all know, Hometown Heroes arose in response to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack to honor and thank local first responders for the critical work they do in our communities. This evening is a celebration of all the “Hometown Heroes” of the Boothbay Region, including local police and fire departments, EMS, ambulance services, communications, the Coast Guard and the Maine State Police. The Hometown Heroes Fund supports first responders’ abilities to safely and effectively do their jobs by supplying funding for equipment not included in annual budgets.

On behalf of the people of Maine, I thank all the Hometown Heroes who put their lives on the line and keep us safe every day, and I hope you all have a wonderful time tonight. Janet T. Mills, Governor.”
