Help needed with Edgecomb road
Dear Editor:
Regarding the article written by Bill Pearson about the recent Edgecomb select board meeting … all wrong concerning Old County Road. The upper part of Old County Road is not a private road. It is a discontinued town road owned by the town with a right of way to the town owned Schmid Preserve.
We, as residents, have and will continue to fight for some help from the town to maintain and repair the road which is heavily used by the public as one of the primary access points to the preserve. It is also the only access to the Schmid Preserve for fire and rescue within the preserve and as such requires repair and maintenance.
We residents have spent many hours of labor and money, using our own equipment up until now. We have been requesting help from the town for five years to no avail. At this point, the road is so severely degraded that it is a safety issue. We can no longer continue to maintain this public way.
If you use the Schmid Preserve, I encourage you to contact the select board and ask them to help us with the road. It is becoming a matter of public safety.
