Healthy Lincoln County announces VISTA position

    Healthy Lincoln County, a nonprofit community-based organization, is pleased to announce that it has been selected by the Maine Department of Agriculture as an approved site for an Americorps VISTA Food Security Coordinator position. This position is part of Maine’s commitment to be hunger-free by 2030. The VISTA coordinator will help build the capacity of Healthy Lincoln County’s food security system by strengthening partnerships with 15+ local food security efforts through increased efficiencies and coordination.

    The VISTA member will be a one-year paid position, beginning in April. The VISTA member will help identify present and ongoing needs and opportunities for improving coordination and community-based efforts to close the meal gap in Lincoln County. The VISTA member will also develop best practice guides for operations, ensuring sustainability and will work with other HLC staff and volunteers to enhance and expand awareness and reach of Lincoln County food security efforts. 

    The position is open to individuals of all ages, 18 years old and older.

    “The position is particularly well-suited to recent high school or college graduates who may wish to find a meaningful, nonprofit, community-based “gap” year experience or older individuals who wish to explore new opportunities or continue to remain active in meaningful work following retirement,” according to HLC Director Kate Martin.

    Healthy Lincoln County (HLC) supports thriving, healthy communities in Lincoln County through collaboration, education, and outreach. HLC is a local community health non-profit agency serving all of Lincoln County, Maine. It offers programs in substance abuse prevention, nutrition education and healthy food for community.

    HLC currently administers or supports the following Healthy Foods for the Community programs:  Lincoln County Gleaners, Summer Meals Program, Lincoln County Food Initiative, and SNAP-Ed Nutrition Education. Healthy Lincoln County makes this possible by establishing connections with local farms, food pantries, and school snack and backpack programs, among others.
