Dear Editor: 

I am writing in response to a recent Disqus post from Jack Bauer, because I think that Mr. Bauer has missed two important points about the recent demonstrations on the Damariscotta and Wiscasset bridges. 

First: the people demonstrating are also Americans. 

Second: many of those demonstrating are Republicans who did not intend for their votes to lead to the current situation. 

Part of our current problem, I believe, is the hardening of positions so that the real concerns of all cannot be reasonably addressed. We will lose all that makes America great if we don’t stop hurling insults at each other.
