Lucille Machon was born at St. Andrews Hospital in Boothbay Harbor on Jan. 22, 1917. On Sunday, Jan. 22, 2017, she celebrated her 100th birthday at the House of Pizza in her town. The place was packed with friends, family, community members and well-wishers of all ages. “She’s a dear woman,” “We’re very good friends,” and “She’s a pistol!” were just a few of the comments heard through the room.

In a few minutes talking with her, it’s easy to understand why she’s beloved. Machon was gracious, warm and welcoming. People love her, and she loves them back. Looking around at the large gathering, she said, “This is how this community is. They all come together.”

How does it feel to be 100? “It feels pretty good,” she said.
