Story Location:
53 Townsend Avenue
Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538
United States

Join us to enjoy 15 choice paintings by Robert Hamilton brought together on the first floor of Studio 53.

Robert Hamilton (1916-2004) built a unique painting language influenced by so many diverse interests, jazz, Italian puppet theatre, surviving 100 P47 combat missions over Germany in WWII, and his ribald humor.

Hamilton was especially prolific after his retirement in 1981 from actively showing in the Northeast and teaching at Rhode Island School of Design. It was then that he built a studio and galleries on acreage overlooking the harbor at Port Clyde, and it was then that he could control his own artistic exposure and work routine.

Terry Seaman and Heidi Seidelhuber, owners of Studio 53, worked with Hamilton's wife, Nancy from 2013 until her death, showing Hamilton's paintings. Terry and Heidi privately, and with passion, gradually bought as many of these paintings as possible. Scattered around the gallery since then, they have elicited an astonishing amount of positive response. Many artists have learned from them. It is time for us to see Hamilton's statement together again in the gallery, as complete as we can make it.

The Hamilton paintings are not for sale. The show runs from Aug. 29 through Oct. 8, daily 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Studio 53 Fine Art, 53 Townsend Ave., Boothbay Harbor. There is air conditioning and free off street parking.
