Hallowell Community Band concerts return

Fri, 07/17/2020 - 5:30pm

Hallowell Community Band returned to the Boothbay Region for the band’s first concert of 2020 on July 16, but on the Boothbay Common. The band has played summer concerts on the lawn of Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library for decades, beginning with a concert in the Waterfront Park on the Fourth of July.

The pandemic prompted the move to the Common where it is easier to maintain the 6-foot social distancing requirement to prevent spreading COVID-19.

The concert had Sousa marches, Italian compositions, a few 1960s rock ’n roll tunes including “Build Me Up, Buttercup” and, from the 1950s, “Blue Tango.” Foot tapping, card playing, knitting and doggie meet-n-greets were going on in the background as the band played on, for its 77th year.

The band will return for a season of 7 p.m. Thursday concerts through Sept. 3. Bring your own blankets or chairs and be sure to wear a mask and socially distance.

    See you on the Common!
