If people were disappointed about the rain and the cancellation of Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library’s annual Halloween parade, nobody showed it. Hundreds turned up Oct. 31 for the last-minute scramble to bring the parade indoors at the Harbor’s Fire Department. Julie Roberts, who handed out gift certificates to Coastal Maine Popcorn, said over 350 children passed by her table and probably nearly 900 people did in the hour-long event.

BHML and town staff helped usher families through the town office entrance and into the meeting room where kids could touch and feel some creepily disgusting stuff like komodo dragons’ tongues and witches’ fingers.

From businesses to churches to nonprofits and organizations of all kinds, rows and rows of tables were set up to let monsters, witches, ninjas and more perform their own mini parade to collect tricks and treats. Among the fun, fantastic and scary were also princesses and a pineapple, Marios and Luigis, cops and robbers, Mickies and Minnies, and dinosaurs galore.

“This took a lot of last-minute work by many people,” said Boothbay Harbor Police Officer Larry Brown, who assisted the library staff and others with organizing the event. “Lights were strung, decorations were made and put up, games were put in place and more was all done through the effort of people who wanted this event to be successful. We live in a great community.”
