Greyhounds outpace Seahawks in Unified basketball
The Lisbon High School Greyhounds beat the Boothbay Region High School (BRHS) Seahawks, 68-65, in a closely matched game, Tuesday, March 4, trading baskets with each possession. At the half, the Seahawks were down 34-31. In the second half of play both teams opened up their 3-point games and ultimately, the final possession secured the win for Lisbon.
Seniors Eddie Carpenter for the Seahawks and Sebastian Pomelow for the Greyhounds tipped off the competition with first possession going to Lisbon for a layup. Carpenter answered downcourt with a floater for two points. From there Carpenter dominated the backboard for the Seahawks, scoring 14 baskets, three of which were 3-pointers, for a total of 31 points in the game.
Seahawks power-shooter Matthew Jackson was absent from the matchup, and forward Anthony Angelico slid into the role, using his one-handed bank shot to drain nine baskets for 18 points, his best performance this season.
Also missing were Seahawks coaches Dennis Dacus and Tanya Thibault. The team welcomed debut coaching gigs for Tammy Blackman and Ally Ryan. Other than a few delays in substitutions from the bench, the new coaches were flawless in their approach, offering both enthusiasm and encouragement. Blackman wrote, “It was my pleasure… I would definitely volunteer again in the future! The joy on the players' faces is perfect! They cheer each other on, help each other score, and genuinely enjoy the game!” Coach Ryan agreed, “It was such a positive environment to be a part of!”
Chloe Joneth scored 12 points, mostly floaters, and Brandon Seigars four from bank shots. Casey Phelps, Cole Hyson, Brian Abbe, Kady Good, Matt Carpenter, Bailey Lewis and Tatum French completed the roster offering both on-court assistance and sideline coaching.
Halftime included Chuck-A-Duck and dancing to "YMCA" Village People, 1978). The game was officiated by Clayton Pottle. The Greyhounds are coached by Tom Fish and Joanna Turner.
Seahawks have back-to-back matchups against Lincoln Academy, starting Thursday, March 6 at home at 3:30, then again Monday, March 10 away.
