Great night for Charlie and Friends
Dear Editor:
On Aug. 18, Charlie and Friends Second Stride Rescue held their first fundraiser. We raised just over $7,000. Our mission is to rescue slaughter bound, abused and neglected horses by providing rehabilitation and care in a safe therapeutic environment. The dinner included twin lobsters, steamers, corn on the cob, homemade baked beans, potato salad with pie and ice cream for dessert. The main focus of the auction were the 11 carousel horses that were painted by local artists through out the region, as well as many other items donated by businesses and friends and family. This event never would of been a success without so many people in our community. First and for most a “big thank you” to Kyndall Schmidt whose energy, guidance and knowledge made the dinner and auction so successful. We also would like to thank all the artists who donated their time in painting the carousels and the businesses and people who sponsored and displayed them.
A huge thanks to Paulette Carter for providing The Carousel Theater, Cindy Hale for the delicious baked beans, and a big shout out to Atlantic Edge, Pinkham’s Seafood, Brown’s Farm Stand and the Ice Cream Factory for their contribution to the wonderful dinner and dessert enjoyed by everyone.
We also want to say thank you Sue Sherman for all her donations, ideas and help, you are truly amazing. Last, but not least, to the Burke’s Island Farm family. You all are extraordinary! To George Campbell for making all the carousel bases, Derek Abbott for the endless hours of helping put all the carousels together and the kids and parents who volunteered at the dinner. You all are incredibly amazing people. Thank you will never be enough to show our appreciation to everyone who helped in making our first event so much fun and successful.
