Gosselin receives $500 Bryant Fund scholarship from Southport
Each spring, Southport graduating high school students are eligible to apply for a $500 Arthur S. Bryant Scholarhip. This year's recipient is Anna Gosselin.
For the past 25 years, Southport's high school seniors have been eligible to receive a scholarship established by Thomas M. Bryant to honor his father. According to the Bryant scholarship terms, the scholarship is awarded to "graduate or graduates who are most worthy and needy of financial assistance to help them in getting more advanced training and education."
Selectmen approved the award at the April 2 weekly board meeting. In the early 1990s, Thomas M. Bryant established the scholarship after his father's death.
In other action, selectmen received a U.S. Census Bureau request to participate in the annual public employment and payroll data survey. Selectman Gerry Gamage said the town would "probably not" participate.
Selectmen approved Shannon Leeman's request to rent the town hall on June 1 for a graduation party. The town charges non-residents a $150 fee for a one-day rental.
Selectmen meet next at 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 9 in the town hall.
