Shawna Gatto, 44, of Wiscasset, charged with murder in the 2017 death of Kendall Chick, 4, of Wiscasset, requested a continuance through her attorneys on Dec. 28.

The trial is scheduled for Jan. 24 to Feb. 1 in Lincoln County Courts. According to the motion filed by attorney Jeremy Pratt, one of the defendant’s potential expert witnesses has yet to prepare a report, and is not available those trial dates.

The state opposed the motion. Justice William Stokes has yet to decide.. If the case is continued, the trial would likely not occur until at least April, and would have to be moved to Knox or Kennebec counties.

Gatto’s attorneys also asked that DHHS records be copied out for Dr. David Fowler, a potential expert witness for the defense. That motion was approved. After his review, Fowler will have to return the documents to DHHS to be destroyed.
