Garden Club provides beauty throughout the year
The Boothbay Region Garden Club continues its long tradition of providing decorated Christmas wreaths for the public buildings and monuments in the Boothbay region. This year, 41 wreaths were gifted to the community through the civic development committee of the BRGC. The public buildings adorned by these beautiful fresh wreaths include post offices in Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, East Boothbay, Southport and Trevett. Other buildings in the area to receive wreaths are our libraries, historical society buildings, the chambers of commerce, the town halls, the U.S. Coast Guard Station and even the Boothbay Region Refuse Disposal District building and other maintenance buildings of Boothbay. Monuments include the war memorials of the area, the Civil War Monument and the Blue Star Marker. In the spring, the BRGC plants and/or places window boxes full of flowers at these same locations and helps to maintain them throughout the season.
The BRGC relies on two major fund raisers each year to help fill the coffers that allow the organization to continue its work. The Festival of Trees, which just concluded this past weekend, and the summer Home and Garden Tour are long traditions around the region that not only provide wonderful community events but help us fund our community beautification efforts, our scholarship program and our Garden Therapy program at St Andrews Village.
