Free loaner bicycles pick-up Saturdays at Rotary Club
The Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club is ready to provide loaner bikes to anyone needing transportation in order to work in the Boothbay region. Bike pick-ups will take place from 10 a.m. to noon every Saturday, starting May 27 through July 8. The free bikes require a refundable deposit of $100 and some kind of ID. Bike pick ups take place at the Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club House at 66 Montgomery Road (first left off of Route 96 heading east from the Hannaford intersection).
Many local employers, if asked, will provide transportation to the Rotary Clubhouse, and some may even provide (or loan) the refundable deposit in order to make it easier for their summer workers to get to work affordably and easily.
Thanks to a $28,000 grant from the Chester and Muriel Dawes Foundation to support the Rotary’s bike program, the Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club now maintains a fleet of 107 all aluminum bikes from Hudson, New York-based Priority Bicycles. These rust-free, low-maintenance, sturdy bikes are trouble-free and easy to ride. This year, the parishioners from the Boothbay Harbor Congregational Church are also donating reflectors and bike locks.
