Free concert a success at Opera House






The Wildcat Wind Ensemble, Seahawk Symphonic Band, and Boothbay Region Community Band joined forces for a free concert Nov. 10 at the Opera House in Boothbay Harbor.
The Wildcat Wind Ensemble opened the show with “The Star Spangled Banner” followed by “Ten Master in Two Minutes” and “Trumpet Voluntary.”
The Seahawk Symphonic Band followed with the theme from “The Office” TV show, “Cartoon Capers,” and “Cantina” from Star Wars Episode IV.
The Boothbay Region Community Band played “Semer Paratus” and the theme from “Sesame Street.”
Finally, all three bands joined forces and finished off the concert with a rendition of “Blazing Saddles" by Mel Brooks and John Morris, arranged by Michael Story.
The concert was conducted by Boothbay Region Elementary and Boothbay Region High schools’ music teacher Mark Phillips, who also plays tuba in the community band.
The Wildcat Wind Ensemble musicians included Kali Andrews, Abigail Little and Maren Whitney on flute; Kelsey Poore on clarinet; Ally Nein, Kyla Taylor, Ryan Russell, Nate Rideout, and Jonathon Genrich on alto saxophone; Ciara Pitcher, Rachel Gentry, Fox Elder, Charlie Chappelle, Hailey Abbott, Jonah Zipperer, Madison Nichols, Grace Campbell, Sean Marston and Justin Hyson on trumpet; Mason Erhard and Issac Wyer on French horn; Isabel Harkins on trombone; Benjamin Rumney on bass, and Clarence Burnham, Timothy Norton, Bailey Maguire and Sophia Gudroe on percussion.
The Seahawk Symphonic Band musicians included Ellie Demmons on violin, Annielyn MacKusick and Savannah Sedivy on alto saxophone, Zachary Blackman and Nicholas Labonte on tenor saxophone, Draco Peaslee on bass, and Cassidy Jones, Jacob Bishopp and Noah Sherburne on keys and percussion.
The Boothbay Region Community Band, which is searching actively for new members, includes Susan Wilson and Angela Machon on flute, Paulette Carter on saxophone, Curt Boot on trumpet, Bill Walsh on trombone, Mark Phillips on tuba, Sharon Machon-Ames on marimba, and Diane Randlett, Becky Roberts and Christine Rubicam on clarinet.
