Chester and Alice Trask Fossett celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on Aug. 15 with a clambake at their 1 Atlantic Avenue home, Boothbay Harbor. Ida Decker presided over the renewal of the couple’s wedding vows in the presence of family and friends.

They were married at the First Methodist Church at 81 Townsend Avenue on Aug. 15, 1954 with a reception at the brand new church’s vestry. The original church had burned down and the new church had been recently rebuilt.

The couple are lifelong residents of Boothbay Harbor and were classmates at the East Side Grammar School until the war years when Alice’s family moved to Portland. Chester was born at the old St. Andrews Hospital and Alice was born at home at 9 Park Street in 1930. They met again at St. Andrews Hospital when he was a patient and she was an RN. He went home to Spruce Point after his treatment and called the hospital switchboard and asked if there were any nurses who wanted to go out on a date with him knowing she was the only RN on that ward, Alice was tickled pink and said yes!

Chet and Alice have four children: Elaine, Brian, John and Jim. They have 10 grandchildren, and three great-granddaughters with another on the way!
