Former Boothbay area resident Reed Bunzel publishes another murder mystery
Boothbay Region High School alum Reed (Stewart) Bunzel returned to his former home in September 2014 from Charleston, South Carolina. He and wife Diana attended his class of 1974 reunion held at Robinson’s Wharf, Southport.
Stewart, now Bunzel, is a veteran media executive who has spent his entire career in the radio, music and Internet industries. He is currently the president of Bunzel Media Strategies, which is a consulting firm that provides marketing and financial services to broadcast companies and interactive businesses.
He formerly served as a president and CEO of an Internet radio company, was COO of an independent record label, and editor-in-chief of numerous publications reporting on the media industry.
Bunzel is the author of hundreds of articles and business profiles and has also written a number of books, including “Clear Vision,” “The State of Radio” and “Pay For Play,” a mystery dealing with the radio and record businesses.
After graduating from Boothbay Region High School in 1974, Bunzel attended and graduated from Bowdoin College in Brunswick. Bunzel and BRHS grad Chip Griffin were roommates at Bowdoin. Bunzel holds a degree in anthropology from Bowdoin.
His recent fiction book, "Palmetto Blood," is a murder mystery set in Charleston where Bunzel has resided for the past five years. A copy of “Palmetto Blood” was recently given to the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library by the author.
The main character in this fast paced thriller is Jack Connor, an Iraq War veteran who works for a bio-hazard company called Palmetto Blood. This modern day whodunit reflects Bunzel’s interest in science, media and mania. He dubs one junk-yard dog “Rupture,” an example of his ability for description.
The world certainly has its share of murder mysteries, however, in combination, with Bunzel’s connection to the Boothbay region and his ability to tell a tale, it is a good read with unexpected tangles and turns.
Bunzel is a diamond in the rough and promises to teach us all through his eyes of details that we might just overlook.
