A fire ignited on top of a utility pole just outside Sea Pier, Atlantic Avenue, Boothbay Harbor sometime before noon on Jan. 29.

Several pops, or small explosions, occurred while firefighters were at the scene. According to Fire Chief Nicholas Upham, there was nothing they could do but wait for Central Maine Power employees to arrive to trip the power lines.

Upham, who said the pole was a “three phase” one, had alerted CMP.
