Financial responsibility for our schools
Dear Editor:
As a taxpayer who has been paying attention, I hope that our locally elected school officials pump the brakes before paying architects an additional $1.2 million. Approximately $1 million has already been spent on the $100 million plan for building new schools, which may never even get past voters unless it is all privately funded by donors.
All donations received are supposed to be unconditional and no strings attached, so I think the boards should demonstrate financial responsibility and retain the remaining money or deploy those funds elsewhere for a more worthwhile purpose until more significant additional private donations are secured.
