More than 30 artists and craftspeople exhibited their works for sale Aug. 10 and 11 at Southport Yacht Club’s annual arts and crafts show.

According to coordinator Adrienne Robntrick, proceeds benefit the Southport Junior Yacht Club Sailing Foundation. Over 200 youthful sailors take part in the one-week program each summer, she said. Over $25,000 has been raised over the years for the program, said Robntrick.

Yacht Club Secretary Janet Duchaine exhibited her knitted clothing and sewn summer dresses. “She has her own room,” said Robntrick.

New to the display were knitted items made from alpaca wool from Chile. “My husband and I spend six weeks there in the winter,” said Duchaine.

In a tent, local artists Kim Villard and Lisa Best held a block print painting workshop for children.

Owen Kennedy, a 14-year-old fiddler from Winthrop, entertained visitors from the deck. Kennedy recently returned from a 2.5-week fiddling tour of Scotland with a group of 20 youth and adult musicians led by his teacher, folk fiddler Ellen Gawler.
