Selling vehicles was a no-brainer for Doug Miller of Boothbay.

He was employed as a car salesman at Wiscasset Ford for 11 years, and after that he worked in sales for U.S. Cellular for 14.

He opened his business, Boothbay Region Auto Sales, on June 2. Now he gets to make up his own schedule, and bring his dog, Brady, to work with him. And when you're in business with only yourself, nepotism is a moot point. Miller's son Kyle is his second-hand man.

Doug Miller is pleased to have his son helping out. “I can't be here all the time, so if I have to run out for an appointment, he can keep an eye on things,” he said.

Doug Miller said he buys his cars through different venues, including auctions and online sources such as Facebook. He gives all his cars a thorough going over before offering them for sale, and sub-contracts work that needs to be done to Freedom Auto Care in Boothbay.

“Cars are definitely 100 percent up to snuff before they leave this lot,” he said. “I'd rather spend the money and put out a quality car. Especially in a small community like this one, if you don't have a good reputation, you're not going to stay in business.”

But Miller said some cars don't warrant pouring a lot of money into because of the relative value of the vehicle, and if that's the case, he's honest about it.

“I'll tell you what's wrong with it and what needs fixing or replacing,” he said.

Boothbay Region Auto Sales is zoned for 20 cars at the present time. There are six on the lot and two out for repairs now, but more are coming soon. Current prices range from $2,995 to $11,995. All of Miller's vehicles come with a 30-day, 1,000-mile, 50/50 warranty.

The business is located at 645 Wiscasset Road (Route 27) in Boothbay.
