Eventide opens Fishermen’s Festival weekend

Eventide Epicurean Specialties’ expansion into bread and cheese will get its start Saturday, April 27 during Fishermen’s Festival weekend.
The painting is done, and a large amount of antique furniture has been brought in and repainted in Eventide’s colors. The bakery and refrigeration equipment won’t be installed in time, so there won’t be any cheeses for sale or baking bread yet, but Eventide Artisan Bread & Cheese will still have a wide range of new products for sale.
Owners Kim Martin and Denise Demeter traveled all over Maine and New England searching for new products that fit with their store. They were especially interested in handmade, one of a kind products people wouldn’t find anywhere else in Boothbay Harbor.
One product they are especially excited about are new small bowls and rolling pins made by West Harbor resident Amy Mundy. The wood is carved and then sealed with a mixture of beeswax and mineral oil, and the bowls are the perfect size for dipping.
“The wood should be treated with mineral oil every once in a while to preserve it,” Demeter said. “The cutting boards we will have for sale should also be treated. We will have mineral oil for sale for this purpose.”
Another new product being sold are “Food Slabs” made by American Stonecraft artist Gerald Croteau III. These slabs are made from rocks found along New England farm rock walls, so each one is unique.
“They are fantastic food-safe platters,” Demeter said. “They can be used to display cheese or appetizers on a buffet, in a kitchen, or wherever. Each one is different and they are all beautiful.”
Eventide has also partnered up with Ethereal Confections, a company based in Illinois run by Mary Ervin and Sara Ervin. Using Eventide’s oils and balsamics they have created a range of confections. Some of the flavors available include black cherry lemonade, sweet basil & cherry blossom, and blood orange & vanilla bean.
Other products include slate cheese boards, pepper sauces, vanilla bean maple syrup, new aiolis, Moxie Jam and much more.
Eventide Artisan Bread & Cheese will be open Saturday, April 27 at 10 a.m. They are next to Salon Cappella, at 5 and now 6 Boothbay House Hill in Boothbay Harbor.
