Second Congregational Church, Newcastle

End-of-season service at Pemaquid Lighthouse Park

Sat, 09/01/2018 - 7:00am

The Second Congregational Church, UCC in Newcastle will hold its annual end-of-season service at Pemaquid Lighthouse Park in Bristol on Sunday, Sept. 9 at 10:30 a.m., rain or shine. The service will be held in the park's adjacent community center/museum. The Rev. Char Corbett will lead the service. Her sermon, “God Speaks Through Seashells,” will resonate with anyone who shares an awe of the seas and nature’s presence in our lives.

Welcoming music will be a two-keyboard duet of “Eternal Father, Strong to Save,” the Navy hymn, played by Peter Asche and Jane Wilmot. Additional hymns celebrating creation include the Native American hymn, "Many and Great of God are Thy Works." It will be accompanied by recorder, drums, rain stick, and rattles. The Chancel Choir will sing a choral setting of Longfellow's poem, “God of the Earth, the Sky, the Sea” and “For the Beauty of the Earth” by John Rutter.

An offering will be collected to support ongoing hurricane recovery efforts through the United Church of Christ's Disaster Ministries Fund.

The worship service will be followed by a picnic and cookout. Burgers, hot dogs and beverages will be provided by the church, and all those planning to stay for the meal are encouraged to bring a salad, side, or dessert to share. As with all the church’s activities, all are welcome. For more information call 563-3379.
