Edgecomb seasonal resident William Anthony and year-round Edgecomb resident Dr. Kathryn Rohr offered selectmen their services Monday Aug. 12 in keeping increasing costs at bay.

Selectmen Ted Hugger and Mike Smith were there. Selectman Jack Sarmanian was on vacation.

Rohr shared her concerns about the increasing tax rate for residents. “I’m concerned about the continued rate of increase in town taxes. I don’t see any mechanism to limit the amount of increase. Over time, this will become unsustainable.”

Anthony voiced concerns about the many town residents who live on fixed incomes. In particular, Rohr and Anthony expressed concerns about the increases in the budget to operate Edgecomb Eddy School. Rohr asked selectmen if they give the school board a budget. Smith said the town and the school are separate entities.

Both Rohr and Anthony expressed their wish to participate in the budgeting process for the coming year. Budget committee member Janet Blevins welcomed their participation.

Selectmen appointed Ken Vinal code enforcement officer, Bill Witzell EMA director and Robert Leone constable, all until June 30, 2020; Roy Potter public health officer until June 30, 2021; and Andy Abello and Lisa McSwain to the Schmidt Preserve committee until June 30, 2022.

The fire department reported 22 calls for service in July, including 11 calls for medical assistance, seven motor vehicle accidents, two fires, a downed power line and a fuel leak.
