The Edgecomb Planning Board voted 4-0 for a change of use application for a U.S. Route 1 property to serve as a tattoo parlor and body piercing studio. The board approved Kat Stewart’s application for operating her new business on a shared location with Twisted Iron Customs.

Stewart has been a body piercing practitioner since 2013. She told board members the body piercing studio would be the first one on the Midcoast. According to Stewart, the only other Maine studios are in Portland, Lewiston, Augusta and Bangor. Her new business will be called “Kat’s Piercings and Tattoos.” Stewart’s application states the business will be staffed by a full-time piercing practitioner, two full-time tattoo artists and a front desk person. 

The board conditionally approved a building permit for Phil Sewall and Carla Erickson-Sewall. The couple are building a home on their Engelbrekt Road property which is in the shoreland zone. Final approval rests on the couple giving Code Enforcement Officer Jarrod Pinkham a map showing the building’s exact location. The board meets next at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 15 in the town hall.
