Annual Christmas Party held Dec. 4
Wed, 12/15/2021 - 10:15am

This year DEYC Commodore, Jeanne Koenig and P/C Susan Pope collaborated in the organization of the DEYC Christmas Party. Of course, the first members they recruited to help, were their spouses, Bob Ewing and Brent Pope who contributed eagerly and efficiently. Together they proved to be a great committee.

DEYC does not own a club house, therefore extensive planning time was necessary for planning the event. Deciding a date, determining a menu, and selecting an accommodating site required countless hours of planning. In the end, the committee chose the most appropriate destination possible. The Watershed Restaurant in Edgecomb was a perfect choice. The proprietors could not have been more amenable to our requests for menu selections and seating arrangements. The venue is beautiful, located on the water and comfortably inviting.

Guests were greeted by Santa (aka Jeff Hackett and his sweet little elf, Elizabeth Rugh. Elizabeth was a tremendous help in the distribution of gifts during the swap. Our DEYC store was conveniently stationed adjacent to the check-in counter. Artfully displayed new and favorite staple Store items were available for wonderful Christmas presents.

A social hour preceded a scrumptious meal of either a seafood dish, chicken, or beef tenderloin and desert of cake and ice cream. Commodore Jeanne Koenig welcomed all DEYC members and guests. Commodore Koenig made several announcements and acknowledged the Past DEYC commodores who were present. Then the fun began!

The entertainment for the evening was a much anticipated “Santa Swap” conducted by Santa and his elf! Each new present drew rowdy cheers from the crowd! The most popular gifts were so coveted that they changed hands numerous times before finally landing with the lucky owner.

The evening concluded with a “Thank You Ovation “ to the service staff, the party planners, and a ”Ho-Ho-Ho” from the Jolly old Elf.
