Gathering at Winslow Way, Southport, home of David Winslow and Lisa Clarke

Density control, social distancing, self-isolation, medical testing: all attempts at effective methods of controlling the spread of coronavirus. This national phenomenon is affecting citizens and organizations locally as well. The small number of guests at the home of David Winslow and Lisa Clarke on Saturday evening was evidence of these measures.

The number of guests at these functions is normally somewhere between 40-50; but even on this beautiful “almost spring” afternoon in Southport, the number of quests totaled only 17, with most of them from Southport or near by. Regardless, our group of “hearty” or “ Fool-Hearty” DEYC members enjoyed the gracious hospitality of David and Lisa in their beautiful home on Winslow Way in Loves Cove, a lovely corner of Ebenecook Harbor.

Irrespective of the numbers, we always appreciate and enjoy the company of our DEYC members. The atmosphere was welcoming, friendly and casual. David was willing and gracious enough to take time to show us the evolution of the Winslow family home. Local craftsman, Matt Cole was able to blend memories and customs of the past with fantastic elements of modern design throughout the home. All of this is enhanced by the art and artifacts on display. One of my favorites among the memorandum is a beautiful , functioning ”Ship’s Wheel” located between two flour length windows in one of the sun rooms.

We enjoyed favorite beverages around the table of wonderful culinary offerings in the sun-filled room overlooking their private cove. The view to the western shore of Ebenecook Harbor (across from Hodgdon Yacht) was the setting for a magnificent sunset.

We will meet again, God willing, in late April. Until then, calm seas and gentle winds to all.
