Donor dollars distract from real education solutions
Dear Editor:
The architects have been extremely well paid through donors to make their sales pitch to us and they stand to make millions more if Question 1 passes.
And always remember that neither the architects nor the head salesman (superintendent) has any real vested interest in Boothbay or Boothbay Harbor.
Perhaps that’s part of the reason why they seem so determined to lock us all in to a costly construction project that will only force us to continue paying 100% of the price to maintain overly expensive schools at the end of a peninsula forever.
With all the time that has been put in, it was hoped some of our local school officials would help represent the towns’ best interest and look out for taxpayers, but I don’t think that has been the case.
Wouldn’t it be nice if they paused a moment from any last-minute election spin tactics to just come clean with us at the town public hearings this week? When will they finally admit their own mistakes and bad miscalculations about donor support?
And before it’s too late, we really want to know why local school officials stubbornly refuse to consider anything other than the donor-influenced agenda.
If we don’t vote down Question 1 and 2, we’ll let them all squander this once-in-a-generational opportunity to find better long-term solutions for education in our entire area. And we may never get another chance.
