Dolphins shine at home meet against Portland

Boothbay Region YMCA Dolphin swimmers recorded 56 best times during the last home meet of the season against the Portland YMCA on Saturday, Jan. 6.

Other highlights included team records set by Graham Harris, Evy Case and Marlowe Recoing-Tallen in the 1650 freestyle event; the pre-meet ceremony honoring Boothbay Region High School seniors Evy Case and Emma Pearce, who have competed with the Dolphins for 11 years; and special thank yous were offered to the seniors’ mothers, Aimee Case and Kathleen Pearce, who have been running the timing and Hytek systems at the home meets for many years.

Coach Zach Gray named the following swimmers as “swimmers of the meet” for improving their best times overall in the events they competed in: Alexander Hughes, Marlowe Recoing-Tallen, Arabella Hodgdon, McKinlee Madden, Reed Prentice and Beatrix Recoing-Tallen, who earned her first New England YMCA cut time in the 25 breastroke.

Twenty-nine Dolphin swimmers competed.

Gray wished to congratulate the following: the 8 and under girls 100 free relay team of Eleanor Erwin, McKinlee Madden, Georgia Griffith and Arabella Hodgdon, which finished second; the 8 and under boys 100 free relay team of Demetrius Hilgendorf, Byran Hills, Miles Murray and Alex Hughes, which placed second; the men’s 15+ 200 medley relay team of Graham Harris, Rowan Kristan, Marlowe Recoing-Tallen and Quinn Prentice, which placed first; and the 9-10 girls 200 medley relay team of Tatum French, Hannah Hills, Ella Watts and Yuji Smith, which finished first.

Swimmers who qualified for the YMCA State Meet on Saturday were Alex Hughes, Evy Case and Fox Elder.
