Do we have government?
Dear Editor:
The reason we have government is that because no one else will do the things that government does. Think about it. Our quality of life depends on government. Our lives are safer because of government.
I remember when a river burst into flames because of pollution. I remember when city air was so full of particulate that your mouth tasted funny. I remember when there was no recourse for discrimination because you were a person of color, or you were a woman. I remember when there wasn't a national road system of highways. I remember when there was no internet. I remember when there was no cure for some cancers. I remember when there was no quick inter-library loan service.
So look at the cuts to our agencies that the Trump administration is taking and think about how it will effect the lives of your children and grandchildren or elderly parents. Think no NIH research. Think no library services supported by IMLS. Think no weather reports and warnings from NOAA and how it will effect our fisheries and coastal communities. Think longer waits for IRS info. The list is so extensive
it's overwhelming and it will take decades to recover.
