Democrats caucus in Boothbay Harbor

Mon, 02/05/2024 - 2:00pm

On Sunday, Feb. 4, some 50 regional Democrats came together at Boothbay Region High School to take part in the 2024 Municipal and Regional Caucus. The caucus was one of many held across the state Feb. 3 and 4 and was hosted by the Boothbay Regional Democratic Committee, which represents Democrats in Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor, Edgecomb, South Bristol and Southport. The caucus was held to elect both local and town party leaders and the regional delegates who will go to the Maine Democratic Party state convention, May 31 and June 1 in Bangor.

Regional Committee Chair Lucien Laurie was elected chair of the caucus and began proceedings by explaining the schedule and introducing Maine State Sen. Cameron Reny. Reny thanked the gathered citizens for their attendance and spoke enthusiastically about the coming election campaigns. Reny was followed to the microphone by Maine State Rep. Holly Stover, currently serving her third term in the Maine House. Both Reny and Stover are seeking reelection in November.

After brief speeches from Reny and Stover, the assembled Democrats divided into their respective town groups to elect town party leaders, and to discuss town issues.

The caucus finished with all attendees coming back together to elect regional committee members, and for a reminder from Laurie to vote in the Presidential Primary March 5.
