CSD trustees consider future projects for schools
A maintenance crew's work is never done, especially at Boothbay Region elementary and high schools. At the Jan. 6 CSD Trustees meeting, maintenance supervisor Dave Benner unveiled his “Looking Ahead,” five-year plan for major projects at both schools.
Some of these projects are to being completed as soon as possible, such as the replacement of the BRES intercom. Others are in the works, such as the replacement of the auditorium seating and carpet at BRHS.
The trustees wanted to see this list because knowing what projects need to be done, and their priority, will help in creating their budget over the next few years.
Other projects include the replacement of the BRHS library carpet, replacement of the entrance way cameras at BRES, replacing the mechanical gym wall at BRES with a draw curtain, repairing the tennis courts, rebuilding the bus area to improve drainage, grass the infield area of Perkins Field, repairing the infield of Sherman Field, repaving the sidewalks at BRES and the east side of BRHS, paving the poorly draining area behind the BRES kitchen, and replacing certain areas of the roof that have major leakage issues.
Benner also provided a “future wish list” of projects he would like to do at some point. These include installing wireless clocks in all schools to synchronize the time, replacing the lockers at BRHS with new ones, sanding and repainting the BRES gym floor, installing safety rails on the BRES bleachers, replacing the school generator (as a designated shelter area, Benner feels the school should have a top-notch one), building up the area between Perkins and Sherman fields to serve as a practice area, replacing Sherman Field's portable bleachers, and getting new bleachers for the tennis court area. He also put on the “Wish List” a desire to repave the parking lots behind and in front of BRES, and replacing the high school's flat roof with a rubber, 9,350 square-foot one.
Benner provided loose cost estimates for all these projects except repairing the tennis courts, as he is currently waiting on an estimate for that.
