CSD annual budget meeting June 23
The Boothbay-Boothbay Harbor Community School District annual budget meeting is at 6 p.m. June 23 in the Boothbay Region Elementary School gymnasium. A joint meeting of the CSD Committee and Board of Trustees will follow with members approving one of two architectural firms to continue the campus master plan. Neither meeting will be on Zoom.
The 22-article warrant seeks to approve $10,898,543 in spending for the 2021-2022 school year, a 2.6% increase over last fiscal year. Article 2 authorizes regular instruction program spending of $4,241,240; article 3, special education, $2,001,201; article 4, Career and Technical Education, $0; article 5, other instruction, $290,164; article 6, student and staff support, $1,013,160; article 7, system administration, $262,414; article 8, school administration, $608,019; article 9, transportation, $446,345; article 10, facilities and maintenance, $1,356,000; article 11, debt service and other commitments, $415,000; and article 12, all other spending, $265,000.
Article 13 appropriates Essential Programs and Services funding of $5,350,962 in appropriations and $4,724,034 in amounts raised, the figures meeting minimum for state funds. Article 14 approves additional local funds of $4,092,581, exceeding the state’s EPS model by $3,827,581 due to costs of student to teacher ratios, special education programming, extracurricular activities and transportation. Article 15 summarizes the $10,898,543 budget for approval and Article 16 appropriates $38,531 and raises $20,000 for adult education.
Articles 17-22 authorize the CSD to spend grant funds requiring no additional cost to the CSD, use additional state subsidy, transfer funds from cost center to cost center in amounts exceeding 5%, transfer $100,000 from the unassigned fund balance to the emergency reserve, and spend employee retirement and unemployment reserve funds as necessary.
CSD special joint meeting
The joint committee/trustees meeting that follows will have two votes on one issue – whether or not to hire Lavallee Brensinger Architects for the CSD campus development project. School Committee Chair Stephanie Hawke, Vice Chair Peggy Splaine and members Abby Jones, Bruce MacDonald, Ruth Macy and John Bertolet will hold the first vote. Trustees Chair Stephen Lorrain, Vice Chair Ronnie Campbell, Richard Hallinan, Kevin Anthony, Ashlee Lowery and Troy Lewis will follow.
