The Seahawks cross country teams outran their competition at the Mount Valley Conference Championship on Oct. 13. The boys team took first place edging out Lisbon High School by four points making it the sixth straight year Seahawks boys came home first place and the ninth time in the last 11 years. The girls team fought hard for a well-earned second place just 14 points behind Monmouth Academy.

Will Perkins, Fox Elder and Graham Harris took third, fifth and seventh respectively with times of 18:53, 19:12 and 19:18. Mason Erhard, 17th, 20:10; Ryan Russell, 19th, 20:16; Blake Erhard, 20th, 20:18; Rowan Kristan, 28th, 20:57; Nathan Chatterton, 33rd, 21:12; Lucas Hardwick, 38th, 21:46; Quinn Ranta, 39th, 22:00; Will LaBrecque, 44th, 22:21; Nate Gilliam, 49th, 22:46; and Gavin Carlson, 65th, 25:04.

Faith and Glory Blethen continued their first and second place streak into the MVC Championship with times of 21:18 and 21:51. Grace Campbell, 14th, 25:02; Zada Smith, 22nd, 27:25; Maria West, 24th, 27:36; Lily Yeaton, 28th, 27:46; and Delly Clarkson, 30th, 28:07.

“UMA is arguably the hardest course that we run during the year and yesterday the weather and footing made a tough course that much slower,” said Coach Nick Scott. “Any runner who came close to their personal record, let alone broke it, had an amazing day.”

This included Grace Campbell and Delly Clarkson who both beat their lifetime personal records.

“The weather was a little on the messy side but we didn't let that get in the way of having an extremely successful day,” said Scott. “Individually lots of athletes turned in great races and were named to the All Conference Team.”

The All Conference Team is determined solely upon success at the MVC Championship. The first seven athletes to cross the finish line are named to the first team. This puts Faith Blethen, Glory Blethen, Will Perkins, Fox Elder and Graham Harris all at the front of the pack for their respective teams. Those who placed eighth through 14th are named to the second team which also puts Grace Campbell into the mix. Athletes placing 15th through 21st were honorable mentions – Mason Erhard, Ryan Russell and Blake Erhard.

The Southern Maine Regional Championship is Saturday, Oct. 21 at Twin Brook Recreation Center in Cumberland. Both teams will be racing their top seven athletes.
