Work on Barters Island Bridge is expected to resume April 15 after a week long delay due to multiple positive coronavirus cases among construction workers. Maine Department of Transportation spokesman Paul Merrill confirmed the delay April 13 that the main contractor notified the department “it was temporarily stopping work” due to positive COVID-19 cases in the work crew.

Project Manager Glenn Philbrook expects construction to resume by April 15. He doesn’t expect the delay will have a major impact on the construction schedule. “The current revised schedule has the bridge opening by end of May, and final completion by Aug. 1,” he wrote in an email.
