Congregational Church supper 'gets better every year'
Over a hundred people gathered at the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor at 5 p.m. for the traditional Fishermen’s Festival supper. This year the menu featured crab cakes, macaroni and cheese, ham, beans, coleslaw and homemade pies.
As people ate, they talked about the events of the day and how much they had enjoyed this year’s festival so far and were looking forward to the Blessing of the Fleet on Sunday.
When asked about how they rated the food, just a few of the comments were “superb,” “gets better every year,” and “excellent.” No complaints came from anyone, only compliments.
Pastor Sarah Foulger, who had made blueberry pie this year for the supper, expressed her enjoyment of the festival. She also said how fortunate that no one was hurt during the ramp collapse at her favorite event, the crate running.
“It was a perfect day. The weather was wonderful, and the town was full of people,” Foulger said.
Bill Koutzmann, who attended the dinner, did not attend the festival but said he enjoys watching the Miss Shrimp pageant every year. This year he watched it on Channel 7 while making his homemade jam.
Mark and Louise Keegan said they drove downtown at 7:30 a.m., Saturday morning and it was impossible to find parking.
“The harbor was packed,” Louise Keegan said. “And it was wonderful how many young people were around.”
Mark Keegan agreed. “It was great to see teens walking, smiling, happy, participating in the festival.”
