    With 50 entries in Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens’ first Gardens Aglow Lighting Contest, the competition was fierce! Of the 50 entries, 35 were businesses. Merchants and home owners alike strung thousands of lights until the towns looked like holiday cards come to life. Designs varied from the fun and creative to the classic, and all added to the incredible festive energy that has taken over the peninsula for Boothbay Festival of Lights.

    All participants did such phenomenal jobs with their entries that the panel of anonymous community judges all reported back that picking the winners was very difficult. They scored participants on originality, effective use of color and overall impact. Prizes at $2,500, $1,000 and $500 were awarded for first, second and third place, respectively, with gift baskets for the two honorable mentions. Winners were announced during our Community Night on Wednesday, Dec. 7, and they are as follows:

    First Place – Pinkham’s Seafood

    Second Place – Captain Sawyer’s Place B&B

    Third Place (tie) – Sharon Hicks & The Watershed Tavern and Brewery

    Honorable Mentions – Wanser’s Natural Market & The Harbor House Inn

    Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens would like to extend a sincere thank you to all who participated – we were impressed by all of the incredible displays, and were happy to enjoy the splendor all over the peninsula. Congratulations to the winners and their inspiring displays – our hat’s off to you!
