Coast Guard recognizes Boothbay Harbor Flotilla Member


Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 2-5 member, Ted Chatham, was awarded the Coast Guard Auxiliary Commendation Medal for Outstanding Achievement.
The award was presented by RADM John W. Mauger, Commander, First Coast Guard District.
The citation to accompany the award read in part: “Auxiliarist Chatham is cited for outstanding achievement while serving at Sector Northern New England (SNNE) from January 2013 to August 2022. In that period, he volunteered over 11,000 hours and demonstrated exemplary leadership and operational excellence in numerous positions such as Auxiliary Sector Coordinator, SNNE Aviation Liaison, Vessel Examiner, Boat Crew Coxswain, Aids to Navigation Verifier, and Team Coordination Training Facilitator. As Auxiliary Sector Coordinator, he managed the procurement and distribution of $60,000 of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and developed an inventory system to ensure PPE accountability saving thousands of dollars in operating expenses.
“As SNNE Aviation Liaison, he enhanced key Sector safety objectives by initiating regular Sector briefings on Auxiliary Air missions and created aircraft quick-reference guides for First Coast Guard District Command centers. Additionally, he arranged over 30 area familiarization flights for newly reported active duty officers.”
Flotilla 2-5 member and East Boothbay resident Chatham’s regular duties include: Sector/Division/Flotilla level Public Affairs and Member Training Officer; CG Sector Northern New England Auxiliary Aviation Liaison; CG Sector Northern New England Team Coordination/Risk Management Training Coordinator; Auxiliary National Staff Branch Chief, Atlantic Areas North and Central, for Auxiliary Support of Coast Guard Recruiting.
