CMP and the Sheikh
Dear Editor:
I would ask your readers to consider the name of Sheikh Hamad ibn Khalifa Al Thani, because he is the largest shareholder in CMP. Your readers probably don’t know who he is, precisely because CMP would like to hide him behind the images of ordinary Mainers in their propaganda campaign against Pine Tree Power.
Every time you pay your CMP bill, the largest share of profits from that income go to the Sheikh and his investment company, an agency of the government of Qatar.
Please look behind the CMP propaganda campaign, paid for by these same profits. They want to keep the money flowing from us to them.
Pine Tree Power would change that completely, and create a power company owned by the people of Maine and governed by a publicly elected board, answerable to the people of Maine.
CMP propaganda tries to scare us into thinking Pine Tree Power would be run by “greedy politicians.” Read up on it and you will see otherwise. CMP wants you to believe in the guy from Cornville and the guy from Swan’s Island. They are just a front for the real owners, who have their palms out for our cash.
The greedy ones are the ones who are taking our money now under the current ownership,of CMP, whose chief shareholder is Sheikh Hamad ibn Khalifa Al Thani.
