CM Hammond Lumber sweeps Boothbay
Central Maine Hammond Lumber Hurricanes crept back into the Maine American Legion baseball pennant chase July 15, while the Boothbay 36ers tumbled down the standings. The Hurricanes swept a doubleheader at Sherman Field. The Hurricanes won, 4-2. and 9-3. Central Maine is now 7-10 and Boothbay falls to 5-11.
In game one, Boothbay managed only four hits in their 4-2 loss. Boothbay trailed 3-0 before scoring one in the fifth and one in the seventh. Oscar Gallant and Sam Markowitz each doubled. Felix Clines and Braeden Toothaker each singled.
Starting pitcher Devin Bendix pitched 2.2 innings, allowed four hits, one earned run, walked five and struck out three. Blake Grady pitched 1.2 innings allowed one hit, no runs, walked four and struck out three. Casey Phelps pitched 2.2 innings allowed one hit, no earned runs, walked one and struck out four.
Hurricane pitching walked four and struck out five. The Hurricanes made two errors and Boothbay made four.
In the second game, Boothbay took an early 1-0 lead in the first, but Central Maine scored four in the third and five more in the fourth. Central Maine won the second game 9-3.
Boothbay had two extra base hits. Bendix and Toothaker both doubled. Bendix also singled,, as did Markowitz.
Jacobs ptiched 3.2 innings allowed four hits, six earned runs, walked six and struck out nine. Kaleb Hussey pitched 2.1 innings, allowed two hits, no earned runs and struck out one.
Boothbay travels to Central Maine Community College in Auburn for a doubleheader against Sanford. on Saturday, July 18.
