Classic Boat Race July 20

Tue, 07/17/2018 - 3:00pm

The popular Classic Boat Race is calling all eligible vessels to race on Friday, July 20 at 1330 hrs. This no-fee race is open to all area sailors and is sponsored by Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club. The older the vessel the better!

The race is intended for boats with a traditional full-keel design (whether old or new) and/or heavy cruising boats 25 years or older. This pursuit start is a non-spinnaker race, utilizing cruising canvas ratings.

Starting times shall be determined primarily by PHRF-NE cruising canvas ratings. Boats without valid or provisional 2018 PHRF-NE racing handicap certificates will be handicapped by the BHYC Race Committee based on PHRF-NE handicaps of similar boats and their knowledge of the boat. Determinations by the Race Committee regarding handicapping in the event that PHRF-NE certificates are not present shall be final.

Advance registration is required via the BHYC racing section of the club website. (www.bhyc.net/racing). Click Register Online and proceed as prompted.

Classes: There may be three classes, depending on the number of entrants: Boats under 30 feet, boats 30 feet and longer, and BHOD boats

Lunch will be held at 11:30 in the BHYC dining room. A brief skippers’ meeting will be held at 12:45 at the BHYC clubhouse with the first boat starting at 1330 hours between Tumbler Island and Spruce Point. Specific start times will be assigned to each boat at the Skippers' meeting, and will be repeated on VHF channel 72 at the beginning of the race.
