‘To Catch A Thief’ to screen for Member Appreciation Night

Wed, 06/19/2019 - 11:00am

In the winter, many of our members enjoyed the Classic Film Series, so for Member Appreciation Night we will feature a favorite summer classic, "To Catch A Thief” (1955) with Cary Grant and Grace Kelly, Thursday night, July 11. Free admission for members. Doors open at 6 p.m. when Eventide Specialties will be offering French wine and cheese. Come early, meet your friends and enjoy refreshments before the film starts at 7 p.m.

For a mid-summer movie, what's better than a romantic thriller with a dashing guy and a beautiful girl driving around in a 1950s convertible on the French Riviera? Especially when the dashing guy is Cary Grant and the beautiful woman is Grace Kelly, in her last Alfred Hitchcock film.

A jewel thief is at large on the Riviera, and all evidence points to a famed retired cat burglar played by Cary Grant. But Grant pleads innocence, and vows to find out who's been copying his distinctive style. With the reluctant aid of detective John Williams, Grant launches his investigation by keeping tabs on the wealthiest vacationers on the Riviera. One such person is heavily bejeweled Jessie Royce Landis, who is as brash and outspoken as her daughter Grace Kelly is quiet and demure. But "still waters run deep," as they say, and soon Kelly is amorously pursuing the far-from-resistant Grant. Part of Kelly's attraction to Grant is the possibility that he is the thief; the prospect of danger really turns this gal on. Being Cary Grant, of course, he can't possibly be guilty, which is proven in due time.

The film runs 1 hour 46 minutes and is rated PG, so bring the family, too.
