Campbell leads Seahawks at Jan. 17 meet
Rose Campbell led the Boothbay Region High School (BRHS) indoor track team at its Jan. 17 meet in Gorham. Campbell earned three out of the Seahawks’ five podium placements, including winning the 55m dash.
Complete varsity girls results were as follows: Campbell and Kora McKenney placed first and 20th in the 55m dash in 7.86 and 9.85; Campbell placed second in the 400m dash in 1:07.89; Karen Higgins placed second in the open 800m run in 2:29.48; Sophia Mansfield placed second in the open triple jump with 28-10.25; and Campbell and McKenney placed second and 10th in shot put with 26-02.25 and 19-11.00.
Boys results were: Chase Mansfield, Nathan Percival, Neal Baldwin and Logan Bourne placed 18th, 20th, 22nd and 23rd in the 55m dash in 8.41, 8.61, 9.14 and 10.00; Percival, Chase Mansfield and Baldwin placed 21st, 22nd and 24th in the 200m dash in 31.30, 31.40 and 35.35; AJ Crocker and Colby Doucette placed seventh and 16th in the open 800m run in 2:22.17 and 3:01.82; Cleyton Splaine and Ross Gaffney placed fourth and eighth in the open one-mile run in 5:31.77 and 6:06.58; and Bourne, Baldwin and Chase Mansfield placed sixth, ninth and 11th in shot put with 32-07.75, 24-10.25 and 23-06.75.
Jan. 20 in Gorham, Campbell, Higgins, Moriah Smith and Crocker represented BRHS at the Fleet Feet Invitational. Ben Gapski from Wiscasset Middle High School also competed.
For the girls, Higgins placed second in the two-mile run in 11:25.40, Campbell placed fourth in the 55m dash in 7.77, and Campbell and Moriah Smith placed fifth and 11th in the 200m dash in 28.04 and 26.68. For the boys, Gapski placed 17th in the long jump with 17-03.50 and 12th in the triple jump with 34-09.25. Crocker also placed 12th in the two-mile run in 10:51.57.
