BRHS girls qualify for state meet

The Boothbay Region Seahawks girls cross county team qualified for states for the first time in five years Oct. 21 at a meet in Maranacook.

The girls finished second behind Monmouth Academy in the Mountain Valley Conference.

Senior captain Glory Blethen led the Boothbay girls, finishing 8th overall. Glory has been a regular qualifier at the state meet as an individual but this year she will be joined by her teammates.

Also scoring for the Seahawks were Emerson Harris (14); Grace Campbell (19); Emma Markowitz (31); and Falyn Harriman (33). Falyn was competing in her first race ever and without her gutsy finish the team would not have qualified for states. The Seahawks boys team will compete at Maranacook on Saturday and hope to join the girls at states.

“Our first three runners were tied with Mt. Abram’s first three runners in points but our 4th and 5th runners were a little better than Mt. Abram’s 4th and 5th runners, which gave us the third place and a birth in the state championships,” said coach Dennis Dacus.
