BRES students enjoy Read Across America and Dr. Seuss Day

Tue, 03/10/2020 - 7:45am

Boothbay Region Elementary School celebrated the joy of reading along with the birthday of children’s author and illustrator, Dr. Seuss March 2. BRES students enjoyed read-alouds by community and high school student volunteers, special activities in their classrooms such as making “oobleck” (from “Bartholomew & the Oobleck”), Dr. Seuss-inspired artwork in their art classes, and a “One-Fish-Two-Fish, Red-Fish-Blue-Fish” cake prepared by the cafeteria staff in celebration of the much-loved author.

Older students paired up with younger ones to “Drop Everything And Read” for half an hour that morning, and seventh graders Spencer Pottle, Lily Nein, and Paige Botts performed a musical number “Oh the Thinks You Can Think!” for younger classes. It was a day full of reading, fun, and community! BRES would like to thank all the volunteers who helped make this day a celebration of reading and would like to say “Enjoy reading every day!”
