BRES gets proactive on food allergies
Boothbay Region Elementary School Principal Mark Tess has posted a letter on the school's Facebook page reminding parents and guardians that food allergies and other food-related health issues could have serious consequences for children who suffer from them. “It is important for us to respect this serious condition just like we do with other health concerns,” wrote Tess.
BRES is initiating guidelines to help protect children with food allergies from accidentally ingesting a food that might cause a potentially life-threatening reaction. Tess wrote, “For the safety of all our children, classroom treats and open food containers will no longer be permitted to be transported to or from school on the bus. Parents should deliver any classroom food items directly to the school, themselves. This precaution is not only for those that we know have food health issues, but for those we don't know about. Individual student lunches should be packed and kept safely in student bags. All food needs to be eaten in places monitored by adults.”
Tess asks that questions or concerns be directed to him at 633-5097.
