BRCTV and thanks from the select board
BRCTV’s Cody Mitchell presented the Boothbay Harbor select board and the public with recent upgrades and changes to the station’s home, equipment and on-air status at the Monday, Nov. 27 meeting.
Mitchell described the changes from a “closet TV” to a state-of-the-art studio as an exciting and educational process.
“In order for us to continue to grow and to attract new volunteers and involvement, we had to kind of start from scratch, reorganize not only the books, not only the equipment, but also the place we call home.”
The studio, which had barely enough space for one person to work, will now be able to accommodate three students or community members to work on personal or public projects while one BRCTV staff member or volunteer works on studio projects. The new equipment, funded by donations from businesses and other community members, provides much more accessibility for area residents at home and away.
“It’s not a self-driving car,but it’s pretty close. It makes the opportunity to have a public access station much more accessible to everyone. It gives us the capability to go live, to have TV apps … which is moving into the future because we know we are not going to survive the next five years if we just stay a traditional cable station.”
Also Monday night, Town Manager Tom Woodin said the Lincoln County Coastal Planning Workshop is Wednesday, Nov. 29 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Lincoln County Regional Planning Office at 297 Bath Road in Wiscasset.
“The purpose of the meeting is to provide an opportunity for those interested in coastal issues to learn more about past and current coastal work activities in Lincoln County and provide input on what coastal issue projects the Lincoln County Regional Planning should be pursuing,” explained Woodin.
On behalf of the board, Wolf thanked the Boothbay Region gardening club for donating the wreaths at the town office as well as Bob and Kitty Boyd at the Boothbay Region Greenhouse for giving the wreath out in front of the town office which is decorated with lights. Wolf also thanked public works, the fire department and all involved in getting the lights up for this season.
Finance officer Julia Latter presented the town financials to the board. Year to date, revenue and expenses are $4,498,638 and $3,942,660 respectively. The total accounts payable is $75,292.92, and the bank balance is $2,799,555.63.
