Brady’s hosts interim Community Lunch

Tue, 04/05/2022 - 8:30am

After a pause of just over two years, over 60 guests gathered at Brady’s restaurant April 4 to have lunch together. There was a buzz of conversation as old acquaintances were renewed and newcomers welcomed.

The Reverend Peter Panagore zoomed in from Ocean Point on his impressive electric bike and offered a blessing prior to the meal.

A moment of silence was observed for Eddie Tibbetts who lost his life Saturday in a tragic accident.

Special guests Paul and Carole Zalucky provided information on the efforts of Help Ukraine 22, an organization comprised of former U.S. government officials, humanitarian assistance advisers, medical professionals, and Ukraine experts who possess extensive “on the ground” experience in the region. Paul is very actively involved in this mission and gave a brief talk sharing his inside knowledge.

Although there was no charge for the lunch on Monday, attendees responded with heartfelt generosity and over $600 that will go directly to support the on-going relief efforts in Ukraine and other nearby countries.

Special thanks to Brady’s owner Jennie Mitchell who inspired this lunch, donated her time, talent and provisions, and still found more time to make and serve hot beignets, those mysterious little pillows of sugary goodness!

Numerous first-time volunteers and veteran servers of previous lunches arrived early to set tables, make coffee, heat soups, etc. Many thanks to Nicole Hemingway, Abbie Shaw, Judi White, Janice Coutier, Shane McBay, and Ed Shaw. Ed arrived early and stayed late, assisting in every possible way. Thank you Ed, our special MC!

Ed and Betty Shaw provided a delicious chili to serve along with American chop suey, split pea soup, and traditional haddock chowder. Assorted desserts were made by Arlene Smith, Judi White, and two other wonderful people (whose names cannot be recalled).

The next lunch will be held at Brady’s on Monday, April 18, serving at 11:30 a.m.
